Sennen Window - 1987

This painting celebrated the ability to enjoy the presence of a massive beach nearby with all the grandeur and beauty of the unsullied ocean so close at hand once more.

The creation of this canvas signalled that I was once more ready to become that ambitious painter who had set out in possession of a knowledge I had begun to fear was beyond my grasp.

The ocean, when calm, becomes here a translucent green through which the sand adds other colours: there an increase in intensity with the diminishing depth as more light penetrates.

Walls surrounding the miniature fields that run part way out the gentle cliff connect us directly back to the Iron Age, with their loose lichen-covered stones remaining untouched.
