Heddy - 1971

The decade closed sadly; my marriage had become unsettled due to Mary's understandable determination to work out her own creativity through her painting independently from me.

The very painful fact of how much we both loved the three children preoccupied us both; ahead of reality, once glances at our work defined the opposing forces with uncanny accuracy.

Out of the blue I made three paintings of a gaff-rigged vessel sailing in high seas predicting a transatlantic voyage I would make during the following year, the turning point of my life.

During the New Year celebrations that carried the sixties in to the seventies, I had met and become engaged to Lyn, who would leave her lecturing work at art school to become my second wife.
