Chapel Carn Brea - 1990

This hill close to Sennen dominates the whole far-west Lands End peninsular; it discloses subtle hints near its summit of remains of the presence of forgotten earlier men and women.

It constitutes the final vertebra of the geographical backbone that unites Cornwall; the Isles of Scilly, visible from its summit, acts as a tempting bait to attract any still restless traveller.

Ancient ramparts and defensive ditches from prehistory are all about, creating the silhouettes that bring the impact of the past right up to the present with particular vivacity.

This canvas shares with its predecessor a pictorial device I use that enables the viewer to peer through a window, bringing the distance into sharper focus and making it tangible.
